Five Ways To Wear Camo Pants

When you think of camo,  the words glam and classy are usually NOT what come to mind. Camo print has long been associated with army fatigues and hunting attire, but today we are going to show you how you can take this pattern and make it feminine and yes even glamorous!

Jean jackets or jean shirts are the perfect companion to camo pants. They add a comfy casual feel that can be dressed up with heels, red lips or accessories.

A black blazer looks smart. It creates an edgy sophisticated look.

Stripes work well with camo. Wear a striped blouse alone, or layer with a jacket or sweater to add depth.

Neutrals stand out when paired with camo. They add a soft, sophisticated feel to the look.

Sequins add the ultimate touch of glamour to a pair of camo pants. Jenna Lyons looks absolutely fabulous in this ensemble.

What You Should Know about Top Buttons

So you may be wondering… what's Top Buttons all about?  Why do they call it "Top Buttons?"  What is their philosophy on modesty? We want you to get your fashion FIX  and get your questions ANSWERED!

In case you don't already know, Top Buttons is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization purposed  to be a modest fashion resource for young women.

So what does that mean?!!!

As a modest fashion resource, we promote TB approved fashion in the media, provide fashion ideas and help you get your hands on the clothing that has a bit more fabric.

The PHILOSOPHY on MODESTY

Modesty looks different to everyone. We do NOT define modesty through specifics on how long your shorts need to be, how much cleavage is acceptable, or even how tight is "too tight."  But just because everyone's view of modesty is different, doesn't mean the topic shouldn't be addressed.

Obviously, the topic should be addressed and an alternative provided.

We don't want to put young women in a box with one particular style.  Rather we work to encourage them in their self expression through fashion, along with challenging them to recognize the influence of culture on clothing ethics.

There is this concept being pushed in media that if a young girl wants to keep her self reasonably covered, she is somehow uncomfortable with her body or seen as insecure.  At Top Buttons we most definitely disagree.  A young women can love her body without flaunting her sexuality.  But if she feels this is the only way to get noticed and this is what is acceptable and normal, it will continue to occur.

It is our heart to encourage young women to consider the "why" behind what they are wearing, and to provide a "resource" that helps them accomplish their unique yet proper fitting look for every occasion.  

What makes an article of clothing "TB approved?"

In our opinion, it's about the total look of an outfit and the message it sends rather than an individual article of clothing.  TB approved looks are those which would not be defined as provocative by current cultural standards and those which would be acceptable in most settings.

Where did the name Top Buttons Come from?

So, we  wanted to think of a name that was loosely connected to modesty without being direct.  Something that makes you think of "classy" and is associated with style.  After jotting down tons of ideas and narrowing it down to the top three ideas.  We let the teens decide, and they liked Top Buttons best.  There you have it!

From around the world, Top Buttons has a team of young Christian men and women working together to serve you!  Our dedicated staff oversee each department of our organization,  from the Online Magazine Fashion Editor, Rebekah Miura to our Education Director, Katie Deloach.

Top Buttons also has numerous contributors for our online magazine that offer up to date fashion tips and tricks!  We work to collaborate with exceptional young men and women who are passionate about this cause and those who have artistic skills to inspire your wardrobe on a day to day basis.

THREE PLATFORMS

Currently we operate on three main platforms: 1) The ONLINE MAG; 2) styling and educational services; and 3) wardrobe makeovers for teens in need.

1) The Online Magazine is motivated by our Motto…  Revealing Less; Expressing More! Not only are teen and collage age young people creating the content, but we feature everyday young people IN the content.  These young people can inspire you with their style and their life.  Check out our online magazine along with thousands of others each week for consistent fashion inspiration.

2)  As a part of our organization we also offer styling services. Pictured below, our TB Fashion Editor gives a style and beauty makeover.

Probably our favorite part of TB is sharing our message with young women face to face!  We have a fun and interactive program designed to challenge, encourage, and promote expression with healthy boundaries.

3)  We know young women can't always afford to go buy new clothing items when they need or want to.  As a part of being a modest clothing resource, we  provide young women in need with new wardrobes!

How it works:

• We accept nominations for recipients of our wardrobe makeovers from schools, religious or civic organizations.
• The nominated teen must be female and between the ages of 13 and 17.
• Through a review process and based on availability, we are able to provide the recipients with our TB styling services and a ton of new clothes!
• Our wardrobe makeovers include the donation of high-end, gently used clothing and/or shopping sprees!

The Young Women's Conference You Must Attend For 2015

On April 10-12, The Church of Rockford First hosted an event called Original Women's Conference where nearly 2,000 ladies were in attendance. This three day span of time was jam-packed with several sessions centered around God's Ever & Always kind of love.

Top Buttons had the honor of bringing a fun and dynamic team of ladies to this conference.

After a long morning of travels on Thursday April 10th, our TB team went straight to the conference site at Rockford First to set up our promotional booth.

We not only offered information about our organization, but we also sold hand-crafted button earrings and consignment clothing. All proceeds went straight to the Top Buttons' fund.

Our booth was conveniently located right next to the Teen Room so tons of young ladies were constantly stopping by our table. In addition, we neighbored another amazing organization called Sak Saum. They sell a variety of hand crafted accessories in efforts to raise money to fight against human trafficking. "Sak Saum exists to set captives free through rescue, restoration, rehabilitation and transformation," says their website.

Night one's sessions kicked off the conference with inspiring every lady to make a "In It For Good" commitment to Christ. Just as lover's forever latch locks onto Lover's Lock Bridge in Paris, each lady was provided with a lock and key to initial and forever lock upon fences labeled In It For Good.

Day two held just as many adventures as day one. We came across so many stylish ladies, we just had to document their outfits. Here's just a few:

Sarah (pictured top right) was visiting Rockford on a pastor's wives retreat when she came across this red Jones New York maxi dress. She shared with us that she wasn't purchasing anything new for a whole year, so it was to her luck that our items were all consignment. Scared that the red dress might clash with her hair, she tried it on anyways and came out glowing with excitement. It was made for her!

When night two finally came, our Top Buttons team had the opportunity to speak about fashion and modesty at the scheduled After Party in the Teen Room. Each team member passed out book marks with pictures and information on where to purchase key items in their outfit.

We loved connecting with so many new friends over common interests like our love of God and fashion. Amanda (pictured below in the hat) recently started her own consignment shop called Worth Royalty where her goal is to provide an affordable and appropriate shopping option that shows young women that they are worth royalty.

Day three included life-changing sessions; last-minute sales; and lots of coffee, good-byes, and travel.

Our very own Molly Dodd and Alexis Gauthier got to meet and hand deliver custom button earrings to one of the guest speakers named Charlotte Gambill.

Taylor Murray fashioned what she likes to call a "Tomboy-meets-Feminine" look! Growing up, Taylor always leaned toward her tomboy tendencies, however, as she's matured, she's learned to incorporate her unique flair and sophistication to create a wardrobe similar to this outfit.

Alexis Gauthier's style changes almost as swiftly as her moods. To let you all in on a secret, for this "Classic Black & White" look, Alexis actually purchased all her items at thrift stores! Her black jumpsuit was 50% off at Salvation Army, which tallied up to about $3. While on Spring Break, a white blazer made it to the top of Alexis' Spring Must Have list, so she quickly grabbed this one off the Goodwill racks for just $6. Thrifting may take a little extra time, but with the added effort you can get current trends (as linked below) for just a fraction of the cost.

All in all, attending the Original Women's Conference in Rockford, IL was a magical experience. From the performances, to the decor, to the sermons and worship, every detail was intentionally taken care of. Our Top Buttons team had such a blast attending the sessions, representing at our booth, and even speaking to the ladies in the Teen Room at their Friday night After Party.

We had a blast, left feeling empowered, and want to encourage all of you to be at the Original Women's Conference in 2015!

Our Favorite Dresses from the 2014 MTV Music Awards

This past Sunday night, the MTV Movie Awards premiered on television hosted by Conan O'Brien. The awards ceremony was filled with both unexpected events and performances by artists such as Ellie Goulding, Zedd, Twenty One Pilots, Rihanna and many more. Celebrities arrived ready and dressed to perfection for this fun Los Angeles event.

Leslie Mann was one of the presenters for Best Male Performance at the awards ceremony wearing a black and tan polka dot Juan Carlos Obando halter top dress. Leslie is best known for her role in The Other Woman, 17 Again, and Big Daddy. She flaunted her dress down the red carpet alongside her husband and two daughters. As Mann arrived at the event, she decided to perform a dance down the red carpet demonstrating her excitement.

Actress Amber Stevens looked beautiful in her simple white Vivienne Westwood dress. We think this dress was a perfect choice for this event. Stevens is best known for her role in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and 22 Jump Street.

Top Button's all-time favorite dress that was worn at the event was wore by Actress Nikki DeLoach. She wins our vote for Best Dressed at the MTV Movie Awards in a bright red Novis dress looking elegant and sophisticated in every way.

As your planning your spring and summer wardrobes don't forget to accessorize with nail polish. Stay on trend by choosing pastel colors such as lavender, pink, and aqua. These colors are perfect for adding a fresh, feminine touch to outfits.

Meet Abby! Her bright colors and cute pose represent her fun personality! Abby's ombre dress blends from pink to orange, which is perfect for Spring. She purchased her dress at Target.

Abby chose to accessorize her outfit with layered necklaces and a cute bow ring, but this dress can be paired with all kinds of jewelry to express one's unique style.

Abby's metallic sandals are from TJMaxx, which is a great store because it offers high quality name-brand clothing at a fraction of the price!

Meet Makailey! She chose to create a color contrast with a sea-green blouse from Bealls and a pink bauble necklace that she scored at Goodwill.

Makailey's white pants are perfect for Florida's warm weather. She was able to get these at Old Navy, which provides several affordable options.

Not only do Abby and Makailey have a good sense of style, but they also have good hearts. Because they have such a unique and dynamic friendship with each other, they're able to remind each other of their value in Christ.

49th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards

This past Sunday, Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton hit the stage hosting the 2014 ACM Awards where countless country musicians were recognized and presented awards in front of many other talented musicians. The night was filled with incredible performances by numerous artists such as Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, and Rascal Flatts.

Carrie Underwood, being one of the presenters at the awards show looked absolutely stunning. Wearing an Oscar de la Renta beaded fringe gown surpassed our expectations on the red carpet. This dress is unlike any other in the way it covers, sways, and fits Carrie beautifully. This is definitely not the first time we have caught Carrie looking amazing on the red carpet.

Kimberly Perry, lead singer of The Band Perry wore a slimming black Georges Hobeika dress where she was able to accept an award for 'Vocal Group of the Year' at the event. Kimberly and her two brother's Neil and Reid make up The Band Perry where they were also able to perform their single 'Chainsaw' after accepting their award.

Sheryl Crow arrived at the event wearing a black geometric Christian Siriano dress, where later she performed the song 'I Hold On' with country singer Dierks Bentley. Their performance ended with a standing ovation from the crowd alongside a standing ovation from us when it comes to her style!

Necklace Layering 101

Necklace layering is a popular trend that is stylish, fun, and always makes a statement. However, with all of the jewelry options out there, it is often times hard to put together a set that works. Recently, I was able to take a peek into the studio of jewelry maker Jane Lee of Jane Ann Jewelry. She was kind enough to let me view her beautiful collection of accessories, where I handpicked four necklaces perfect for layering. They are worth the investment, and can be worn several different ways. I like to refer to them as the “staple necklaces” of your jewelry wardrobe. Here are six different looks that you can achieve using the following four necklaces.

This gold chain necklace is a great staple to have in your jewelry aresenal. It can be worn with several different necklace combinations due to its simplistic design.

I love how versatile these circle pendant necklaces are. They can be worn alone or layered.

I suggest having two circle pendant necklaces, one smaller and one larger pendant.

A gold bar is a must! It is a solid piece that looks gorgeous on its own but really stands out when layered with other necklaces.

Fashion Hacks: Getting Creative on a Budget

When you hear the word "hack," you typically think of an anti-social person locked into a room full of computers trying to crash the Internet, but the concept of "hacking" can actually be applied to fashion. We know what you're thinking: how? or why?

[blockquote]You see, the idea behind hacking is to think of a faster or alternative way to outsmart a system. So, why not outsmart fashion? [/blockquote]

We've compiled a list of crafty remedies and DIY projects for you to try in order to help salvage your favorite pair of boots or perhaps avoid spending money on expensive lip stain.

1. If you have ever ripped a pair of tights, you know how much paranoia accompanies the thought of whether or not the hole will grow and you'll ruin your favorite pair. To avoid this, spray a light coat of hairspray on them to strengthen and seal  the material.

 

2. I'm sure you can find atleast one sweater in your home that hasn't been worn in ages. To let the memories live on in a different style, repurpose it! Here's a cute diagram on how to cut it into a trendy infinity scarf. (Save the sleeves for hack #3.)

3. Need cute legwarmers to match your scarf? Use those sweater sleeves! Pull them up to add a layering effect under your boots. This is a great way to save money and time trying to find the perfect combination of socks and scarf.

  

 4. To keep those boots in tact and to prevent from the added wear and tear of improper closet care, put pool noodles on the inside of your boots to help them keep shape and stand up right. Your boots will last ALOT longer and you won't have to buy a new pair every winter.

5. Have you ever ruined a white shirt due to yellow armpit stains? Fear no more for the days where people see those stains. Just spray some lemon juice on to the pits to extract the color.

6. Speaking of color, there's one thing that is okay to stain, and that's your lips! Instead of purchasing expensive lip-stain, why not do it yourself with Kool-Aid? Plus, it tastes good too!

Kid's Choice Awards 2014 Hits the Orange Carpet

On March 29th, 2014 the 27th Annual Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards premiered on live television where celebrities walked down the orange carpet in style. At this fun and semi-fancy event in Los Angeles, crop tops and cutout attire was popular this year.  But we were able to find some "Top Buttons approved"  attire for both CLASS and STYLE among the many celebs who appeared.

Alexa Vega, best known from her role as Carmen in Spy Kids, appeared at the awards show with her husband Carlos Pena in a full-length black and white romper.

Audrey Whitby chose to wear a coral colored mid-length BCBG dress looking vibrant and beautiful. Audrey is know for starring in the television show Austin and Ally and So Random on Disney Channel. We think this dress was a perfect pick for Audrey.

Kristen Bell wore a Camilla and Marc cheetah-like dress where she was able to accept her award for Favorite Animated Movie where her role was Ana in the hit movie Frozen. Not only did she receive an award at the event but she also was one of the presenter along with Chris Evans. Her dress complimented her spunky personality on stage!

Overall, these three ladies looked absolutely fabulous for this fun, exciting event.

Easter Outfit Ideas for Any Budget

Candice Cameron-Bure on Dancing with the Stars

Candice Cameron-Bure is competing in season 18 of Dancing with the Stars this year partnering with two- time mirror ball-winning champ, Park Dallas. The reality competition premiered just last month and we think Candice has done a fantastic job dancing her heart out each week. Her routines are showcased in front of millions every Monday evening on ABC. The best thing about Candice competing on Dancing with the Stars is the fact that she wants to remain wearing modest costumes throughout her performances.

Candice certainly knows how to put together a fabulous outfit by adding a touch of color in her choice of shoes. By adding a colored shoe, it clearly brightens any simple outfit.

Outside of being a full time mom, Candice never ceases to amaze us when it comes to her faith. She is a great example of what it means to live from the insight out, and that positive outlook is carried on to the show.

"The two most important things in my life are my faith and my family and I know that is what is going to get me through this competition," said Bure in an interview.

Since her role in the hit television show Full House, Candice has married, had three beautiful children and has written two books. She continues to be a great role model for young adults as she dances her way to the top in Dancing with the Stars. We will be supporting her throughout the entire competition! Go Candice!

AnnaSophia Robb's Event Ensembles: New York Fashion Week

The most recent Mercedes- Benz fashion week that happened in New York last month brought new spring styles and trends where it was streamed live via internet. The fashion show brought many of today's most highly recognized designers in the fashion industry. Actress, AnnaSophia Robb who is known for starring in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the inspirational film Soul Surfer, was spotted looking adorable at the show. She wore a maroon knee-length dress with high heels to accompany her look. We think this dress was perfect for this high end fashion event.

We also found her wearing a more casual ensemble at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's Legends show. The black and white stripped top with blue and black cheetah- print pants does not sound like a match, but Robb pulled it off perfectly! This was a cute yet professional look that could be worn to any fun event. To top it off, her boots pulled the outfit together. AnnaSophia Robb surely knows how to dress cute, fun, proffessional and glamorous no matter what the occasion may be. We want more more more!  Less crop tops and more of this look!  Wouldn't u agree this looks amazing on her?
