Get This Look: Jenna's Bold Eye Makeup

The colors of this season are soo exciting for a makeup artist like myself.  Bright and bold, just like me! LOL!  Pops of color have always been a great way to play up your makeup. However, pairing a bold lip and bold eye without looking like a clown, can be tricky.  To recreate Jenna’s fun Bold Eye Look, follow these easy steps: When using bright and pigmented colors, it essential that you prime your skin properly to ensure the makeup stays put!  On Jenna we used the Glo Conditioning cream to hydrate, then immediately primed her skin with the Glo Face Primer, and more importantly, the Glo Lid Primer.  The lid primer ensures that eye shadow stays put.  It also removes any discoloration and mattifies the eye area.  Other popular brands for priming the eye before shadow include  Urban Decay’s Primer Potion and Two Faced Cosmetic’s Shadow Insurance  which can be picked up from Sephora.

I wanted Jenna’s skin to have that “airbrushed” look so I applied Glo Minerals Satin II Liquid Foundation with a dampened foundation brush and lightly dusted her face with Glo Minerals Perfecting Powder to set.

To give her a soft glow I applied Glo Liquid Highlighter to her cheek bones and down the center of her nose with a taklon fiber fan brush, such a pretty sheen!  I then applied a soft rose pink blush to the apples of her cheeks.

On to the star of the show..the eyes!  Any bright richly pigmented color will work for this look.  I chose a jeweled green.  Apply a pale highlight color (white or cream works best) to the brow bone and inner corner of the eye.  Next apply the color of your choice to the eyelid and just above the crease.  Pat on a little extra color to make sure the color is deep!  Use a clean crease brush to blend the crease and soften edges.  Use this same color and a smudge (or pencil) brush to smudge just underneath the lower lash line.

Next, line the upper and lower lash line. I used Stilla’s smudge pot in black and dragged the upper lash line out a bit to create a little wing.  Then smudge a little black shimmering eyeshadow directly onto the upper and lower lash lines directly over the cream, gel eyeliner.  And finally, add lots of black mascara!

For her lips I tried two different Lip Colors and both looked great with her bold eye.  First I tried Glo Minerals Lip Stick in Socialite, a pale soft pastel pink.  Second, my favorite, I applied Glo Minerals Lip Color in Treasure, a bright intense hot pink - loved it!!

Jenna said she loved her look so much she was going to have to plan something to do that night!!!

Erin's Closet Remix

IMG_2741.jpg

Meet Erin, a DIY enthusiast from Kansas City, Missouri. Erin wanted a new look without breaking the bank. I was happy to jump in and help put together an outfit made up of her own wardrobe along with a few new items. IMG_2555

While chatting with Erin about what kind of a look she wanted, she said that she loved her summer dresses and would love to find a way to wear them in the cooler months. With this in mind, I went through her closet and pulled a dress, leather jacket, tights and some fun wedges.

Her outfit needed some polish so we hit up our local H&M in search of some accessories where we found a statement necklace and a fun, unexpected purse. We completed the look with a couple trendy bracelets and a gold watch.

For Erin’s hair, we gave her some loose curls. For her make-up I kept it light and playful. I did a cat eye, pink cheeks, and a nude lip.

Erin looks great in her new look! She had all the right clothing, it was just a matter of pairing them correctly and adding the right accessories. Erin is excited to get her summer dresses out of storage and back on the hangers.

Beauty Wednesday: A Simple But Glowing Look

Product-list.jpg

Without letting makeup define us, one thing we should remember as young women is that it doesn't take a smattering of makeup to accentuate our features. By applying just enough makeup to highlight beautiful brow lines, cheek bones, eye shapes and lips, we can capture both a polished and natural look in our daily makeup routines. I used Emily, our Top Buttons fashion editor, in order to illustrate a classic every day look that anyone can have using the products they own at home. All of the products used in this video were products that Emily already owned.

These products include

1. Liquid Foundation: Chanel Ultra-light Skin: Beige.

This foundation makes for a clean palette and it can be used in order to cover up blemishes, discoloration and refine the look of skin.

2. Powder foundation: Jane Iredale: Light Beige

Powder foundation is brushed lightly over liquid foundation to reduce oiliness in skin and prevent smearing.

3. Blush: Benefit Bella Bamba

Blush can double as both a contour and an additional tone/hue for lighter skin tones. This blush can liven up your appearance as well as add some  shimmer to your overall look.

Make sure to evenly dust the apples of your cheeks while pulling the color out, at a slight angle, toward your hair line.

4. Eye shadow: Sephora Eye Palette: Burnished Cocoa

These neutral, shimmer tones are warming for any eye color. They add subtle contouring effects while also opening up your eyes.

First brush lighter tones over the lid of the eye, then fill the crease of the eye with darker tones of the same color family.

5. Eyeliner: Sephora Liner Electro: Electro Choc

Eye liner, especially soft pencil liners, really accentuate the size and angle of the eye. By subtly lining above the lash line you can define and compliment any eye with any color.

6. Mascara: Maybelline: New York The Falsies Volume Express

Mascara can always add natural looking length to your lashes if you know how to use it. Instead of lathering your lashes with product, gently pull the mascara brush through the lashes just enough to fan out the length of the lashes.

7. Lipstick: Victoria Secret Perfect Lipstick: Wish

Lipstick will always add a dash of color and maybe even a little spice to your life. Thankfully, lipstick is pretty straight forward and easy to apply. As long as you fit the lipstick stick to the curves and angles of your lips you will be ready to rock either a bold or subtle look, depending on your preference of color.
