Help the Cause and Get Your Own Super Cute Top Buttons T-Shirt

On September 20th, we plan to provide an experience through which young women leave with much more than just free clothes. At Top Buttons, we recognize many young women who might want to dress in more proper fitting attire often don’t have the money to go out and buy clothes as needed. Through our “Fall Wardrobe Makeover Event for Teenage Girls in Need” we are working to offer these young ladies with styling tips from our Top Buttons personal stylists and provide them with gently used clothing to replace or enhance their current wardrobe.
Organizations such as PACE Center for Girls, Teen Challenge, Florida Baptist Children’s Home, and others will be able to nominate teen girls between the ages of 13-17 to be a part. Twenty-five girls will be chosen and will have a TB personal stylist waiting to help them pick out clothing that fits their personal style and their body type from quality and stylish clothing donated from people in the central Florida area. The girls who participate will be able to take home 10-12 clothing items at no charge, as well as, receive other gifts from our local community.
On this Special day, Each girl will receive:
We truly love sharing our message with teens. We can connect through fashion, and then talk about deeper matters of the heart. It’s true, we all send a message through what we wear, and we will continue to challenge these young women to consider the message they are sending with their clothing choices. The girls who participate in this event will have access to our Top Buttons team for ongoing mentorship and encouragement. We are honored to partner with these local civic organizations and support the positive message they are working to instill in their girls.
There are several organizations and people, who are partnering with us to help make this event a success! We look forward to sharing more details, as we get closer to the event.
If you would like to DONATE CLOTHING, sponsor, donate a product or give a monetary gift to help us facilitate this special day, please comment below for more info.

There are so many ways to get more use from your clothes by doing some simple restyling. Summer is a great time to practice this, as there are so many options to incorporate into your looks. This is the season you can wear those lovely floral prints, some bold colors, and of course, sunglasses!
The most cost-effective way to change up your wardrobe is to invest in accessories. By simply changing your footwear, necklace, sunglasses, and a few other items, you can create a range of stylish looks with the same basic pieces.
Below are some outfit inspirations to help you switch things up. Have a lovely peace and laughter-filled summer!

The bohemian look has faded in and out of the spotlight over the years. It was huge in the sixties and then resurfaced in 2004 with Sienna Miller spearheading the boho chic trend that led to thousands of women running to stores to copy her effortlessly cool style. This season boho is back in the front lines with stores carrying an endless array of this hippie-esque clothing. We could not be more thrilled!
Flowy, comfortable clothing is the bohemian mantra. This white maxi dress is not only fabulous but, it's affordable. It was found at Forever 21 for a mere $12! In fact, this whole look was scored for a total of $107. Chelsea found her ultra trendy gladiator sandals for $50 at Nordstrom Rack, her Fossil purse was thrifted for $10, her headband was found at Nordstrom for $10, the necklace was also found at Nordstrom for $20, and the bracelets were $5 at Kohls.
Danielle opted for a shorter dress that stays in suit with the loose, free flowing style that is associated with the bohemian look. She landed her entire outfit for under $50!
Danielle’s dress was found at Marshalls for $17, her Free People vest was found at Nordstrom for $15, and her Candie's sandals were on clearance at Kohls for $12. Danielle's fringe necklace is borrowed and the rest of her jewelry was a gift from her family.
The boho style is absolutely attainable this summer. Shopping at Nordstrom Rack or bargain stores like Marshalls are all great places to start. Who knew the boho look could be both cheap and chic!
Happy Styling!

Don't sweat it this summer when it comes to your wardrobe! This summer's style is easy, relaxed, and comfortable. With the cool and classic "boyfriend jean" making it's headway this summer, making a style statement has never been easier!
Wear them distressed, light washed, slim, long, short, cuffed, cropped- however you wear them, they are sure to add an element of effortless edge to your outfit. Not to mention, they are wonderfully comfortable and breathable for those hot summer days. Pair them with your favorite white or message tee for an extra dash of boyish charm. And of course, complete the look with some eclectic accessories to express your personality and add a feminine touch.
This look says confidence and one-of-a-kind style! The top is a bold and fun muscle tank from H&M for only $7! Paired with AG relaxed skinny boyfriend style jeans from Nordstrom for $205. A cute tan bootie heel is another summer essential, found at Nordstrom Rack for $25! The finishing touches to the look are a studded hat from Charlotte Russe for $10 and a multi-chain necklace found at a consignment shop for $7.
This next look features another way to wear boyfriend jeans: boyfriend shorts! These were found at Nordstrom on sale for $25! The message tee is from Aritzia for $15, and the hat is $10 at Charlotte Russe.
This look includes a loose-fitted white tee with sheer panel details from Nordstrom for $25 with a baggy-fit, light-washed boyfriend jean from H&M for $30. Finish this effortless outfit with a chunky statement necklace and a fun printed oxford. The statement necklace is one of the hottest trends in accessories and can be found just about anywhere. The printed oxfords were found at Nordstrom Rack for $15!
So, this summer, keep it simple. Be relaxed. Be yourself.

The white blazer is a classic that never goes out of style. In my opinion, its importance is right up there with the timeless, iconic black blazer. It can be worn in countless ways and always looks chic.
Jacey Duprie from Damsel In Dior styled her white blazer with distressed denim, a white collared shirt, white shoes, and a neutral clutch. This is a casual yet, sophisticated look that is perfect for a laid back lunch with friends
Dress up your blazer by pairing it with a skirt. Julia Engle from Gal Meets Glam paired her white blazer with a crisp white skirt and a classic black blouse.
If you like your look to be a little on the edgy side, pair your blazer with a graphic tee.
The white blazer isn't just for day time, it looks great dressed up with heels, a statement necklace, and clutch. It's perfect for an evening function.
If you don't already own a white blazer, here are links to two great options.

This past week in New York, the CFDA Awards took place recognizing lifetime achievements from fashion to journalism as well as other related arts. Stars wore some of the best of the best for this annual awards ceremony. Our vote for "best dressed" goes to Blake Lively [see featured image] looking glamorous in a green confetti-like Michael Kohrs dress with a scalloped trimming. The Gossip Girl star topped off the dress with diamond hoop earrings and a headband, giving her a cute 60s look.
Olivia Wilde chose to wear a beautiful black fringe LA Decades dress. This dress is unlike we have ever seen before at an event as this and we love it!
Whitney Port attended the event in a classic Dennis Basso dress. Port being a clothing designer herself, sure knew how to dress for this key event.
Oscar winning actress, Lupita Nyong'o wore a unique Suno ensemble that fit her like a glove. After her most recent appearance in the dramatic 12 Years a Slave, she has officially joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

A couple months ago Top Buttons had the opportunity to attend Christian Fashion Week -- a Tampa-based event whose mission is "to create a series fashion shows and events around the idea of fashion from a Christian worldview, reflecting common values such as modesty, boldness, and integrity." For a closer look on the event, visit our recap articles about day one and day two.
What was most captivating about Christian Fashion Week was seeing the exquisite designs of a 19 year old fashion designer named Julia Chew of Xiaolin. Julia's cutting-edge designs, eye-popping colors, and three dimensional textures had the whole audience charmed with delight.
In recognition of her raw talent and success at such a young age, Top Buttons thought it was fitting to capture Julia's story to empower YOU that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. We've even incorporated some of Julia's favorite photos and designs for your viewing pleasure!

1. How long have you been designing fashion and what age were you when you truly decided this was something you wanted to do with your life?
"I’ve always enjoyed sewing and art. When I was in about 1st grade I started sketching fashion designs. My grandmother sews and wanted to pass the legacy of this skill onto me. I learned quickly and well. Knowing how to sew my own clothes was helpful because i struggled to find clothes in stores that I liked and also fit me. When I was 17 years old, I participated in my first runway show with 5 of my designs. Shortly after turning 18, I participated in Christian Fashion Week. During this time, I started talking with different boutique owners and they were interested in carrying Xiaolin garments. I took one step at a time and viewed opportunities as open doors to keep walking through. It has been very interesting and there are valuable lessons learned along the way. I meet people regularly who affirm my decision to do what I am passionate about. Often, people say they wish they had pursued what they desired when they were my age."
[divider_line]
2. We noticed you use a lot of unconventional elements in your designs such as things like beetle wings and peacock feathers, and we LOVE IT. What inspired you to incorporate these things and what's your main source of inspiration for designing?
"My father, an outdoor enthusiast, frequently took me out hiking and camping with him. He taught me to appreciate nature, and together we collected colorful flowers, feathers, and seashells. I would collect small objects from nature and bring them home to admire. When I find natural materials with an interesting color, shape, or texture I bring it into the sewing room and find a way to incorporate it into a fashion design. I enjoy using these materials found in nature to embellish my garments in a way that is unique. For example, many designers use sequins or jewels to add color and sparkle to a fancy dress. Instead, I use jewel beetle wings or vibrant peacock feathers."
[divider_line]
3. It mind boggles us that you're so successful and talented at such a young age. What are some words of encouragement you would like to give to young girls that could encourage them that they can do anything they set their mind to?
"Life is like a journey through hills and valleys. There will be mountaintop experiences and great disappointments. I have been taught that one key to success is finding balance and being steady and consistent whether things are going great or not. Another word of encouragement would be to keep your eyes on the big picture and not get discouraged with small disappointments. When something goes wrong, it is easy to just want to give up. But there is always a lesson to be learned and tucked away for future use when things don’t go “my” way. Keep trying and little by little you will reach goals you set for yourself."
[divider_line]
4. Do you integrate faith in God into your career and if so, what role does your faith play into your designs and your lifestyle?
"I design from a Christian worldview and strive to run my business with integrity according to Biblical principles. Concepts of commitment, loyalty and faithfulness are important to me. I try to see projects to completion and stay within deadlines. I strive to be loyal to people. I aim to be faithful to God and ask His guidance daily as I make decisions."
[divider_line]
5. What is your favorite thing about fashion design and fashion in general? As a designer yourself, is it harder for you to buy other brands/designers?
"I view fashion as an intimate form of art. A painter hangs his masterpiece on the wall, but I get to wear my creations and share this experience with others. Fashion is like a drama. By putting on a certain outfit, one can be transformed into whomever they wish to be similar to an actor on a stage. I do find myself checking the seams to see how well the garment is constructed when I go shopping. I have appreciation for better fabrics and well-crafted garments. That being said, I do prefer the clothes I sew for myself."
[divider_line]
6. We know that an industry like fashion design can be competitive, so was it hard for your parents and family to support you in the beginning stages?
"I am blessed to have been placed in a family that has always supported me and my aspirations. I still consider myself to be beginning since I am only 19 years old. Parents and grandparents have a wealth of knowledge to share. My grandparents own their own business and have done so for 40 years. They have an entrepreneurial spirit and desire the younger generation to have a strong work ethic and succeed. My parents have always encouraged me and my sisters to develop our God given talents. I was home educated and was allowed freedom to explore areas of interest. I am giving my best and hoping God will bless my efforts."

Hearing a story like Julia Chew's is always inspiring. We want to encourage you to find something you're passionate about, offer it to God, and chase it whole-hardheartedly. For Julia, it's fashion, but it can be something completely different for you. Here at Top Buttons we embrace diversity. So, whether you're gifted in the arts, academics, or even athletics ANYTHING is possible.

When you think of camo, the words glam and classy are usually NOT what come to mind. Camo print has long been associated with army fatigues and hunting attire, but today we are going to show you how you can take this pattern and make it feminine and yes even glamorous!
Jean jackets or jean shirts are the perfect companion to camo pants. They add a comfy casual feel that can be dressed up with heels, red lips or accessories.
A black blazer looks smart. It creates an edgy sophisticated look.
Stripes work well with camo. Wear a striped blouse alone, or layer with a jacket or sweater to add depth.
Neutrals stand out when paired with camo. They add a soft, sophisticated feel to the look.
Sequins add the ultimate touch of glamour to a pair of camo pants. Jenna Lyons looks absolutely fabulous in this ensemble.
These are just a few ways to wear this iconic print. If you don't already own a pair of camo pants try here and here. What's YOUR favorite way to wear camo? Let us know in the comments below!

So you may be wondering… what's Top Buttons all about? Why do they call it "Top Buttons?" What is their philosophy on modesty? We want you to get your fashion FIX and get your questions ANSWERED!
In case you don't already know, Top Buttons is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization purposed to be a modest fashion resource for young women.
Modesty looks different to everyone. We do NOT define modesty through specifics on how long your shorts need to be, how much cleavage is acceptable, or even how tight is "too tight." But just because everyone's view of modesty is different, doesn't mean the topic shouldn't be addressed.
Obviously, the topic should be addressed and an alternative provided.
We don't want to put young women in a box with one particular style. Rather we work to encourage them in their self expression through fashion, along with challenging them to recognize the influence of culture on clothing ethics.
There is this concept being pushed in media that if a young girl wants to keep her self reasonably covered, she is somehow uncomfortable with her body or seen as insecure. At Top Buttons we most definitely disagree. A young women can love her body without flaunting her sexuality. But if she feels this is the only way to get noticed and this is what is acceptable and normal, it will continue to occur.
It is our heart to encourage young women to consider the "why" behind what they are wearing, and to provide a "resource" that helps them accomplish their unique yet proper fitting look for every occasion.
In our opinion, it's about the total look of an outfit and the message it sends rather than an individual article of clothing. TB approved looks are those which would not be defined as provocative by current cultural standards and those which would be acceptable in most settings.
That's about all the defining you are going to get. To learn more about what we consider TB approved attire, take a look at our online magazine content.
So, we wanted to think of a name that was loosely connected to modesty without being direct. Something that makes you think of "classy" and is associated with style. After jotting down tons of ideas and narrowing it down to the top three ideas. We let the teens decide, and they liked Top Buttons best. There you have it!
From around the world, Top Buttons has a team of young Christian men and women working together to serve you! Our dedicated staff oversee each department of our organization, from the Online Magazine Fashion Editor, Rebekah Miura to our Education Director, Katie Deloach.
Top Buttons also has numerous contributors for our online magazine that offer up to date fashion tips and tricks! We work to collaborate with exceptional young men and women who are passionate about this cause and those who have artistic skills to inspire your wardrobe on a day to day basis.
Click HERE to read more about our STAFF and our REGULAR CONTRIBUTORS!
Currently we operate on three main platforms: 1) The ONLINE MAG; 2) styling and educational services; and 3) wardrobe makeovers for teens in need.
For more information click here!
We live in a world that rewards inappropriate and provocative behavior. At Top Buttons, we are determined to provide a unique platform where young girls can be recognized for their individuality and their classy looks. We understand the conflict with culture versus the young female on this challenging issue, we appreciate your support to continue propeling this movement.
Top Buttons is funded through donations! Please share this article with your friends and family if you think they would be encouraged by what we are doing! If you would like to donate clothing, services, or financial support to our organization please contact Chris@topbuttons.org for more info or you can easily Donate Online by clicking here. Surviving in the super competitive fashion industry can only come from, those with a similar passion, joining together to make an impact! Our passion is simple, young women should have the alternative which we are providing. Our alternative isn't motivated by profit, it's motivated by protecting, encouraging, and inspiring.
What do you think about what we are doing? We want feedback from you!

On April 10-12, The Church of Rockford First hosted an event called Original Women's Conference where nearly 2,000 ladies were in attendance. This three day span of time was jam-packed with several sessions centered around God's Ever & Always kind of love.
Enjoy this brief recap video as seen on the Original Conference website.

Top Buttons had the honor of bringing a fun and dynamic team of ladies to this conference.
After a long morning of travels on Thursday April 10th, our TB team went straight to the conference site at Rockford First to set up our promotional booth.
We not only offered information about our organization, but we also sold hand-crafted button earrings and consignment clothing. All proceeds went straight to the Top Buttons' fund.
Our booth was conveniently located right next to the Teen Room so tons of young ladies were constantly stopping by our table. In addition, we neighbored another amazing organization called Sak Saum. They sell a variety of hand crafted accessories in efforts to raise money to fight against human trafficking. "Sak Saum exists to set captives free through rescue, restoration, rehabilitation and transformation," says their website.
Night one's sessions kicked off the conference with inspiring every lady to make a "In It For Good" commitment to Christ. Just as lover's forever latch locks onto Lover's Lock Bridge in Paris, each lady was provided with a lock and key to initial and forever lock upon fences labeled In It For Good.
[divider_line]
Day two held just as many adventures as day one. We came across so many stylish ladies, we just had to document their outfits. Here's just a few:
Sarah (pictured top right) was visiting Rockford on a pastor's wives retreat when she came across this red Jones New York maxi dress. She shared with us that she wasn't purchasing anything new for a whole year, so it was to her luck that our items were all consignment. Scared that the red dress might clash with her hair, she tried it on anyways and came out glowing with excitement. It was made for her!
When night two finally came, our Top Buttons team had the opportunity to speak about fashion and modesty at the scheduled After Party in the Teen Room. Each team member passed out book marks with pictures and information on where to purchase key items in their outfit.
[divider_line]
We loved connecting with so many new friends over common interests like our love of God and fashion. Amanda (pictured below in the hat) recently started her own consignment shop called Worth Royalty where her goal is to provide an affordable and appropriate shopping option that shows young women that they are worth royalty.
[divider_line]
Day three included life-changing sessions; last-minute sales; and lots of coffee, good-byes, and travel.
Our very own Molly Dodd and Alexis Gauthier got to meet and hand deliver custom button earrings to one of the guest speakers named Charlotte Gambill.
For outfit details on what our Top Buttons' team wore to the After Party, here's the scoop:
[divider_line]
Taylor Murray fashioned what she likes to call a "Tomboy-meets-Feminine" look! Growing up, Taylor always leaned toward her tomboy tendencies, however, as she's matured, she's learned to incorporate her unique flair and sophistication to create a wardrobe similar to this outfit.
To purchase key items from Taylor's look:
Blazer | Boyfriend Jeans | Silver Necklace | Tortoise Watch
[divider_line]
Betsie Amendola keeps it simple by representing her every-day "Tribal Print-Chic" look. On a typical day, you can find Betsie wearing neutral colors paired with over-sized sweaters to stay versatile and comfortable. Betsie loves shopping at Ross because it offers a more affordable selection of trendy name-brand clothes.
To purchase key items from Betsie's look:
Aztec Cardigan | Riding Pants | Bangles | Wedges
[divider_line]
Alexis Gauthier's style changes almost as swiftly as her moods. To let you all in on a secret, for this "Classic Black & White" look, Alexis actually purchased all her items at thrift stores! Her black jumpsuit was 50% off at Salvation Army, which tallied up to about $3. While on Spring Break, a white blazer made it to the top of Alexis' Spring Must Have list, so she quickly grabbed this one off the Goodwill racks for just $6. Thrifting may take a little extra time, but with the added effort you can get current trends (as linked below) for just a fraction of the cost.
To purchase key items for Alexis' look:
There you have it! Three completely different styled looks from the hearts of the Top Buttons team to yours!

We had a blast, left feeling empowered, and want to encourage all of you to be at the Original Women's Conference in 2015!
